Supermanstarring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, is gearing up for the upcoming awards season because it’s set to make a big splash.
The film is the third highest domestic grosser after 2025 Lilo & Stitch And A Minecraft movie.
According to Varietyhas the Warner Bros. Studio entered the film in the drama category at the Golden Globe Awards, citing the intentions of filmmaker James Gunn who stated that he wants to “position the iconic superhero as more than just escapist entertainment.”
The studio proposed Superman for Best Picture (Drama), along with acting categories for Corenswet in Best Actor (Drama), Brosnahan for Supporting Actress and Nicholas Hoult for Supporting Actor.
In addition, Gunn is included for direction and screenplay, plus the original song The Mighty Crabjoys themewritten by Gunn, Eric Nally and Devin Williams.
Additionally, the film has also earned enough box office receipts to qualify for Outstanding Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, which recognize films that have grossed more than $150 million worldwide.
“The positioning of the drama category underscores Gunn’s ambition to present the Man of Steel, traditionally associated with truth, justice and the American way of doing things, as a vehicle for weighty themes,” the publication wrote.
Superman The Golden Globes talk came after the project generated Oscar buzz earlier this month.
The film is up for a total of 16 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay and several more in Hollywood’s biggest awards, according to the ScreenRant.
Previously, Todd Philips’ DCU film Joker (2019) won Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix and Best Original Score, with both wins translating into Oscar wins.
Gunn has also been recognized Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3which received a nomination for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement at the Globes, before earning an Oscar nomination for Visual Effects.
Meanwhile its original Guardians of the Galaxy won an Oscar in 2014 for make-up, hairstyling and visual effects.
