It’s been over a decade since fans last heard new music from One Direction and while there’s no hope of getting anything in the near future, they’re finding solace in the songs and albums the boys left behind.
This week, nostalgia hit hard when the band’s fourth album was released, Fourcelebrated its 11th anniversary.
Four was the last album released when the group was still a five-piece band, before Zayn Malik left in 2015, leaving behind Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne.
The remaining boys continued as a foursome and released another album, Made in the morninglater in 2015, before announcing an indefinite hiatus to focus on their solo careers.
For the unversed, One Direction has released four studio albums with the Dusk to dawn hitmaker: Up all night (2011), Take me home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), and Four (2014).
The 2014 album contained 12 songs including Steal My Girl, Ready to Run, Where Do Broken Hearts Go, 18, Almighty Girl, Fool’s Gold, Overnight Changes, No Control, Fireproof, Spaces, Stockholm SyndromeAnd Clouds.
Although each song is special to Directioners, Steal my girlthe first single, became a major commercial success, reaching the top 20 worldwide and achieving platinum status in the US.
It is widely recognized as a classic One Direction hit. Additional, Nightly changes has perhaps had the most lasting impact, with over 1 billion views on YouTube and 2 billion streams on Spotify.
Will One Direction reunite?
Although fans have long wondered if One Direction could reunite, there has been no confirmed news or reports of a reunion.
However, Liam’s tragic death in October 2024 at the age of 31 reportedly prompted the remaining members to revive their band.
The late singer was the most outspoken about a reunion. However, Louis has since made it clear that there are no immediate plans for new music or a tour as One Direction pays respects following Liam’s death.
No one direction? No problem, because the boys work together. Rumors suggest the Lemonade singer may release a new Netflix documentary with Zayn while the other members continue their solo careers.
Whether there is a reunion or not, One Direction’s music holds a special place in fans’ hearts, proving that their legacy is far from over.
