Kate Winslet talks about the joy of working with her children.
The 50-year-old actress spoke about her new and old projects at Monday’s screening of Goodbye June NYC, joining daughter Mia Threapleton and son Joe Anders.
“I think what I’ve learned about my kids, honestly, is that they’re just such good people,” Winslet, who shares Mia and Joe with her ex-husband Sam Mendes, tells PEOPLE. “They are wonderful people. They are extremely talented. In fact, neither of them are really aware of it.”
“They are very humble,” Winslet says of her children. “They just love the job, they love the work, and they know they have been fortunate to work with special people from whom they have already learned a lot.”
“Because they grew up listening to me learn things and tell stories about something cool that happened on set or something that someone said to me that was really helpful,” says the Titanic star.
“So I’m just excited for them, really, for what’s to come, because they can handle it,” she tells PEOPLE.
Speaking further about collaborating with Joe on Goodbye June NYC, the expert added:
“When it got to the point where the screenplay was ready, I was going to produce it. I was going to play the character Julia and I knew we were in a position to find a director. And suddenly I couldn’t let it go,” she told host Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live last month.
She added, “And I said to him, look, I’d like to direct it, because when you give it to a director, it becomes theirs, and that’s exactly what should happen. But I didn’t want that for him.’
“I wanted him to continue to be a part of it. I wanted him to experience this beautiful thing he created coming to life,” she explained. “And he happens to be very smart when it comes to film, and it was just fantastic to have him with me every day.”
