Ella Purnell explains why ‘Fallout’ is different from ‘The Last of Us’

Ella Purnell on the difference between ‘Fallout’ and ‘The Last of Us’: ‘We had a little more autonomy’

Fallouta Prime Video series inspired by the video game of the same name, has become an instant hit on the streamer. Likewise, there was another video game series, The last of us, which HBO recently adapted.

Like the last show, it was also a hit. But Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy MacLean in the post-apocalyptic series, explains a key difference from the zombie drama.

“I think the makers [Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet] probably feel that [pressure] much more than the actors, especially since our characters are not from the game. It’s not like The Last of Us, where it’s almost frame by frame. We had a little more autonomy and creative freedom,” she says Cosmopolitan.

Lucy, meanwhile, admits that she hadn’t played the game before signing up for the show, but notes that she liked her character when she read the script.

“The way they described her was with a little comedic touch, like someone who would star in a toothpaste commercial but could also kill you. And I thought, ‘oh, that sounds right up my alley,'” the actress says.

Anyway, Fallout is renewed for season three. “I’m excited for season three,” says Lucy, adding her speculation about her character: “What will she do next? Who will she be? Will she go back to the Vault? Will she lead a revolution? Will she get shot?”

‘Will she survive? Is she going to live somewhere in the Wasteland and cut hair for a living? Don’t know. I don’t know what they have in store, but I do know that with everything she’s seen and learned, she won’t be the same Lucy again.”

Fallout season two will be released on Prime Video on December 16.
