Three months before his death, Rob Reiner shed light on his relationship with his father, Carl Reiner, which he said shaped his views on parenting.
“I felt like my father didn’t love me or understand me,” the late director said on the radio show Fresh air.
Rob’s father was a well-known director himself who was at the helm The Dick Van Dyke Showas well as The jerk.
But the father-son duo relationship was not ideal. This affected the Wrong filmmaker about how he would raise his children.
“I was never too busy,” he said, adding, “I mean, at least I was the other way. I was more hands-on and trying to do what I thought I could do to help.”
In the same interview, Rob addressed his relationship with Nick, saying, “He’s been great. He hasn’t done drugs in over six years. I mean, he’s in a really good place.”
As of now, Nick is accused of murdering his parents, Rob and Michelle. Speculation is at the forefront during the trial, questioning whether he will plead insanity given his past mental health and substance abuse issues.
However, Neama Rahmani, attorney at West Coast Trial Lawyers, tells the story People“To be found not guilty by reason of insanity, that is a very difficult legal hurdle to overcome in California.”
“You have to prove, between illness or infirmity, that the suspect does not know the nature and consequences of his actions. In essence, you have to prove that the suspect does not distinguish between right and wrong,” the lawyer notes.
“Jurors almost always reject this defense. It only works a very small percentage of the time,” Naema said, referring to the fact that a plea of insanity does not guarantee a lenient sentence.
It is pertinent to mention that lawyer Alan Jackson is defending Nick in court.
