Chevy Chase opened up about his departure from Community during a new interview.
Promoting his documentary I’m Chevy Chase and you’re notthe actor was asked about his headline when he left the show in 2012.
In the documentary, director Jay Chandrasekhar claimed that Chasde left the set after having a meltdown The Hollywood Reporter article claiming he said the N-word while “questioning the dialogue”.
During his new interview with The New York Times, he was asked about the experience of appearing on the show.
“It wasn’t a bad experience. I just didn’t think the show was that good,” he said Saturday evening live said alum.
The interviewer argued that he “really loved it” at first.
“Oh, shut up,” he shouted. The reporter then mentioned that his daughter Caley Chase said in the documentary that she loved writing.
“My daughter could go to hell,” he noted with a laugh.
When asked about the ending of his role, he said, “I thought it ended wonderfully.”
“It was too much of a misunderstanding about what I said and what I didn’t say. I thought there was at least one person — and another who for some ungodly reason didn’t understand me, didn’t know who I was, or didn’t realize for a second that I’m not a racist. They were too young to know about my work. Instead, there was some sort of visceral reaction from them,” he explained.
In the documentary, Chandrasekhar claimed that Chase returned to the set and that after the N-word debacle and THR article and had a “complete meltdown”.
He said Chase “stormed onto the set, and he said, ‘Who seduced me?’ … ‘My career is ruined! I’m ruined!’ Like it’s a complete meltdown. “F—all of you!” “
