RIYADH: Pakistani javelin player Arshad Nadeem achieved yet another feat by successfully defending his Islamic Solidarity Games gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Stadium on Wednesday.
His compatriot Muhammad Yasir took silver.
Nadeem got off to a good start in the final with a throw of 75.44 meters, which immediately put him at the top of the rankings.
The star athlete threw the furthest in the second attempt – an effort of 83.05 meters, consolidating his lead at the top, while he followed this up with 82.48 meters in the next attempt to confirm his dominance.
He threw 77.06m in his fourth attempt, while his fifth was ruled out. He ended his campaign with an effort of 77.98 million.
Besides him, no other athlete could clear the 80m barrier in each of their six attempts, with compatriot Yasir recording the second-best throw of 76.04m in his final attempt, earning him the silver medal.
Nigerian Samuel Adams Kure took the bronze medal with a throw of 76.01 meters, which came in the fifth attempt, and could not regain his second position in the rankings as he managed 75.84 meters in his final attempt.
