Kanye West lands in new trouble over concert in Marseille after UK ban

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez is “very determined” to ban the June 11 concert in Marseille

American rapper Kanye West has landed in new big trouble because of a concert in the southern city of Marseille in June.

According to a report from the AFP, an insider has claimed that the French interior minister wants to prevent West from performing in the southern city of Marseille.

A source close to the minister said on Tuesday that Interior Minister Laurent Nunez is “very determined” to ban the June 11 concert at the Velodrome stadium in Marseille and is exploring “all possibilities”.

Britain has banned the American rapper, also known as Ye, from entering the country over his outbursts, prompting organizers of a festival he was due to headline to cancel the July event.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer had called Booking West ‘very concerning’.

But Minister of Asylum and Migration Bart van den Brink said last week that there are no plans yet to ban the rapper from the Netherlands.

The French source said Nunez had discussed the possible concert ban with the regional prefect and mayor of Marseille during his visit to the city last week.

Last month, left-wing mayor Benoit Payan said he opposed the controversial artist’s visit, saying he refused to “allow Marseille to become a showcase for those who promote hatred.”

In May 2025, the rapper released a song called “Heil Hitler”, and it was banned by major streaming platforms.

West subsequently expressed regret over his behavior and blamed it on his bipolar disorder.
