The Indianapolis Colts have released veteran cornerback Kenny Moore II after both sides agreed to explore a trade earlier this year.
The move ends Moore’s nine-year stint with the franchise, where he became a key figure in the team’s defense and community.
The former Pro Bowl player saw his role diminish last season after injuries and roster moves limited his opportunities.
Moore missed three games with an Achilles problem and started just seven games, his fewest since joining the Colts as an undrafted rookie out of Valdosta State.
General manager Chris Ballard addressed the decision last month, saying: “[I] I have a high regard for Kenny, not only personally, but organizationally, and I know the city feels the same way.”
“Talking to him at the end of the day, he felt like it was time for a change.”
Indianapolis bolstered its secondary last season by trading for Sauce Gardner.
In 132 games and 111 starts, Moore recorded 21 interceptions, four pick-sixes and 11.5 sacks. He earned his only Pro Bowl selection in 2021.
The Colts are expected to rely more heavily on younger defensive talent as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season.
