South Africa will be next month without wounded captain Temba Bavuma for their tests in Pakistan, but Quinton De Kock comes from one-day international (ODI) pension to play in both white ball series on the all-formats tour.
South Africa will start with the defense of their title of the world test championship with a two-test series in Pakistan, starting in Lahore on October 12, but has to do this without influential battleman Bavuma, who has a calf stem.
“Of course we are disappointed that we have not available Temba,” said South Africa -Coach Shukri Conrad. “He is such an important leader and seizure for us in the test side, and his presence on and next to the field will be missed.”
The tourists will take four spinners on tour, although Keshav Maharaj will only be available for the second test if he recovers from a groin problem. Simon Harmer has earned a recall, with Senuran Muthusamy and Prenelan Subrayan the others.
Aiden Markram will lead the test side in the absence of Bavuma with a different fixed selection of the team that won the club in the final against Australia in Lord’s in June.
Various test players will be equipped for the order of the White-Ball series.
Left-handed Wicketkeeper-Batter de Kock returns after his retirement of the 50-overs format at the end of the Cricket World Cup 2023. He last played on the T20i side on the World Cup 2024.
“Quinton’s return to the White ball room is an important boost for us,” said Conrad. “When we talked about his future last month, it was clear that he still has a strong ambition to represent his country.
“Everyone knows the quality that he brings aside, and having him back can only benefit the team.”
South Africa will host the Cricket World Cup 2027 together with Zimbabwe and Namibia, hoping to end their hunt for the elusive trophy.
Matthew Breetzke will lead the ODI team and David Miller will lead the T20 side. They play three T20i matches of October 28, 1 November and three ODIs from 4-8 November.
