Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman are the powerhouses of Hollywood. However, the moments the duo went through in their respective lives would shock most people.
Starting with the Sample actress, who recalled seeing a nightmare at home at the age of 15 when her mother – in self-defense – killed her father in 1991.
In a recent interview with The timesTheron told how the shocking incident spiraled into what his drunken father believed at the time was her specific act of disrespect towards him.
“I had to pee really bad. So I ran into the house to go to the bathroom, and he took it as rude because I didn’t stop to say hi to everyone,” she recalled.
“The big thing in South Africa is the kind of respect you have to have for elders. And he was in a state where he went into a spiral, like, ‘Why didn’t you stop? Who do you think you are?'”
That night, Theron explained, she was afraid there would be a confrontation when her father came home, and that’s what happened.
“He shot through the steel doors to get in, making it very clear he was going to kill us. His brother was also with him,” she recalled.
Fearing for their lives, Theron’s mother, Gerda Jacoba Aletta Maritz, shot her husband. “She followed my father, who at that moment opened the safe to get more guns out, and she shot him.”

At HISTORYTALKS, the Baby girl actress revealed the news of the death of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, reached her moments before she stepped on stage for the gong.
“I was about to go on stage, and I found out my mother had died, and I went right back to the room in Venice, got into bed, and was completely devastated and thought, ‘I don’t know how to go on or function right now.’”
‘She was such a part of my existence. So the idea of being there at that particular time was parole.”
Both Kidman and Theron’s stories of tragedy traced back to their mothers – despite having different tragedies, the stars didn’t let the trauma define their lives.
