‘Beef’ creator gets honest about stories behind wild scenes in Season 2

The ‘Beef’ creator is opening up about Season 2 scenes inspired by real-life incidents

In Beef Season 2, there are plots inspired by real-life incidents. Writer/director Lee Sung Jin explains what offers an insight into these shocking twists in the new season.

“First and foremost, I can only write what I know,” the Emmy-winning director tells People, detailing the drama, shouting matches and toxic clashes in Season 2.

An example of this is country club staffers Ashley (Cailee Spaeny), who suffers from a medical condition, and Austin (Charles Melton).

Out of concern, the young couple tries to return a lost wallet to their boss, Josh (Oscar Isaac).

But he had a domestic fight with his wife Lindsay (Carey Mulligan).

Sensing an opportunity, the couple secretly films the heated conversations and uses them to obtain favors, such as health insurance.

This is the same scenario Jin witnessed in real life, and Jin says the scene was inspired by it.

However, the creator explains that when he asked different people for reactions to the story, he received mixed responses.

“It was when younger people reacted like Ashley and Austin. While my peers of similar age or older said, ‘It’s a fight. I mean, which of us [hasn’t]? ”

By adding the theme lesson, Jin says it will tell the story “honestly about younger love versus older love in 2026.”

“That affects every interaction,” he says, adding, “It’s not getting better; it’s getting worse.”

Beef is on Netflix.
