According to TSN, the Toronto Maple Leafs have had exploratory discussions with former captain Mats Sundin about a possible role within the organization.
Reports last week indicated that Sundin met with the team owner in Toronto, sparking excitement among fans still reeling from a disappointing season.
However, TSN’s Darren Dreger told TSN 1050 that the discussions were “more exploratory than anything.”
Dreger said Sundin had been in direct contact with MLSE CEO Keith Pelley and other members of the ownership group, although no specific position has been confirmed.
Any potential return will likely depend on the size of the role. Dreger suggested that Sundin might only consider moving to Toronto if he is offered a prominent position within the club.
The former center remains one of the most respected figures in franchise history, having captained the team for more than a decade.
His possible involvement has led to wider speculation among supporters about the return of former players to the organization, including renewed discussion surrounding Gary Roberts.
While no formal offer has been announced, the meeting indicates the Maple Leafs could explore structural changes after a difficult campaign.
