Watch Michael Fassbender make bizarre alien joke as Cannes audience erupts

Michael Fassbender makes jokes about aliens in Cannes

Michael Fassbender believes that humans and aliens want the same thing: to protect their children.

His comments, albeit in a light-hearted manner, came during a session in Cannes where he was shooting his new film Heap screened.

The film centers on an alien invasion of a sleepy town in South Korea, with the X-Men star joking, “There are aliens living among us.”

Upon viewing the film, the Cannes audience was stunned, leading them to give a six-minute ovation.

Overwhelmed by the response, Fassbender says, “Hopefully we can learn something from them; hopefully they wouldn’t be aggressive.”

He continues: “I think in our case there is something interesting about the aliens [in the movie #Hope] And what would be kind of similar to humans is that they want the same things, which is to protect their young, and that’s what it all comes down to.”

Directed by Na Hong-jin, Hope’s logline read: “An isolated coastal village near the Korean DMZ.”

“When a suspected tiger sighting turns into an alien threat and wildfires cut off all communications, locals and a determined police chief must fight for survival against a mysterious, violent cosmic force.”

The film will hit theaters in South Korea this summer.
