Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky has shared his thoughts on the Warner Bros. acquisition.
Speaking at the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, Darren expressed his concerns about the deal, which means Netflix will lose Warner Bros. Discovery, HBO Max, HBO and their TV studios.
“I haven’t digested it yet,” says the Requiem for a dream the director said of the deal. “It’s such brand new news. I have a feeling it won’t be an easy road. I noticed a few headlines today. It feels like everyone is panicking about it. I don’t want to comment on it because I just don’t understand it, and it’s very easy to fall into rally points now.”
He went on to express his one concern, which is also the biggest concern of the rest of the industry, saying, “All I’m saying is that it’s always good to have more buyers. Any time there’s consolidation, it’s bad. We already only have a limited number of buyers. If you want to make a TV show or a movie, you send it out to everyone, and you hope a few of them get hungry for it and get into some sort of bidding war that gives you what you need to to create a work of art.”
“It’s always bad to have one player less. That’s a shame,” Darren Aronofsky said.
