Just friendsstarring Ryan Reynolds, is considered a feel-good Christmas movie. But now Roger Kumble, the film’s director, reveals that this was not the original plan.
In an interview with People‘, he says: ‘It wasn’t always intended to be a Christmas film, but when the production designer kept adding a little bit of Christmas to everything, we talked about it.’
“And we were like, ‘This could work as a holiday movie.’ But it wasn’t a mandate or anything. We just kept track of it: ‘Let’s see if everyone clicks.’
“It was about the themes of family and forgiveness, no pun intended, coming together during the holidays,” the director continues.
Joining him, Amy Smart, who plays Jamie Palamino, adds that the film has entered the Christmas canon, making it her favorite.
“This was one of my favorite movies to shoot, and it was such a fun experience, and I’m glad it’s a Christmas movie because it does have a bit of magic and warmth and nostalgia,” she notes.
“I also think it is mainly a friendship film. I like that it is not just about Christmas, but about relationships.”
