Elon Musk has taken on a legal challenge against Apple and OpenAi and accuses the two companies of monopolistic practices that he believes that innovation stifles in the artificial intelligence sector, Reuters reported.
The lawsuit, which was filed in Texas on Monday, claims that Apple’s decision to integrate OpenAi’s chatgpt into its devices, has unfairly limited competition.
“Apple and OpenAi have locked up markets to retain their monopolies and to prevent innovators such as X and Xai from competing,” the submission explained.
It also argued that Apple deliberately trivialized Musk’s own products. “If it is not for his exclusive deal with OpenAi, Apple would have no reason to show the X app and the grok -app in the App Store,” said it.
Xai is looking for billions of dollars in compensation. OpenAi rejected the court case and said, “This latest application is consistent with the continuous pattern of Mr. Musk.” Apple has so far refused to comment.
Musk, who is also the owner of the Social Platform X and the car manufacturer Tesla, has been an outspoken critic of Apple’s partnership with OpenAi. Earlier this month he said that Apple’s behavior “makes it impossible for an AI company next to OpenAi to reach #1 in the App Store.”
Experts believe that the case can be a turning point in the regulation of AI. Apple can claim that his partnership with OpenAi was a legitimate business decision, while Musk’s lawyers will probably claim that Apple’s dominance in smartphones gives unnecessary power.
