Michael Douglas reflected on his friendship with fellow Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson.
During a Q&A after the New York screening of his 1987 classic Wall Street, Douglas shared a light-hearted story about his friendship with Nicholson.
The actor recalled how Nicholson often teased him about the way he used hairstyles to enhance his performance.
Douglas said:[The character’s] hair has always been an important part of my acting,” adding, “It’s just funny how things like that help.”
He added, “Jack Nicholson always told me about hair acting.”
“[He’d say]“What about his hair acting?” I said, ‘You need to talk,'” Douglas added jokingly.
The lifelong friendship and professional bond between Michael Douglas and Jack Nicholson, spanning more than five decades, has its origins in the 1975 film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, starring Nicholson and produced by Douglas.
Additionally, Douglas championed Nicholson for the lead role, which also led to his first Oscar win.
On the other hand, during the Q&A session, Douglas also discussed his experience landing the iconic role of Gordon Gekko in the 1987 classic. He noted, “I recently saw an article that said that [director] Oliver Stone went first to Warren Beatty – who passed it on – and then to Richard Gere, who passed it on. I didn’t know anything about that. You always like to think you were [the] An.”
“I didn’t know Oliver and I read the script and it was serious, serious work. So I was very happy… You don’t get a lot of good parts in your life,” Douglas said.
According to Douglas, he got the role because he was familiar with some aspects of the character.
