Elizabeth Banks gets candid about her ‘Hunger Games’ role and politics

Elizabeth Banks greets Effie Trinket from ‘Hunger Games’

Elizabeth Banks praises her character Effie Trinket in the Hunger Games for standing up to fascism, while doubling down on her stance to be followed in real life.

She appears on Bustle’s One Nightstand podcast and says, “Effie, for me, is one of the characters with the biggest arc that I’ve ever played, because she clearly supports this fascist regime that she benefits from, and it’s only when she really starts to care and sees how unfair it is that they want to bring Katniss and Peta back into the Games.”

Banks later condemned the white women who voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, saying, “I think in ‘Catching Fire’ when she says, ‘I want to be part of this team,’ and you see her really struggle, and by the end she’s like a revolutionary.”

“I wish more of us would become revolutionaries! Effie is the model, guys! I don’t understand the 53% of white ladies who didn’t vote for Kamala.”

Banks was on the podcast to promote her new show on Peacock, titled The Miniature Wife.
