Aliyah Boston missed the first WNBA game of her career on Sunday after the Indiana Fever sidelined the star center with a lower leg injury prior to their game against the Seattle Storm.
Fever head coach Stephanie White described Boston’s condition as “day-to-day” but declined to confirm whether the issue was related to the injury that previously ended her season in the Unrivaled League and kept her out of the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament in March.
“It’s day to day. So today she’s off, and tomorrow we’ll reevaluate,” White said.
“It’s still early and so there’s no reason to really push anything. And we want to make sure that we’re very careful,” she added.
Boston, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, had played in 127 consecutive regular-season games before Sunday.
Caitlin Clark acknowledged that Boston’s absence would be difficult for the team.
“Obviously Aliyah means a lot to this team, so everyone has to step up. Those are obviously big shoes to fill,” Clark said.
Boston is averaging 12 points, five rebounds and two assists this season.
