Manchester United fans packed Old Trafford for Casemiro’s final home game of the season against Nottingham Forest, with the Brazilian midfielder starting before his contract expired this summer.
The 34-year-old will be given a fitting farewell today as he heads towards his United curtain call. Earlier this week he presented gifts to staff he has been working closely with at United’s Carrington training complex this week.
He has incredibly captured the fans’ hearts by scoring important goals and hasn’t looked back since regaining his starting spot from understudy Manual Ugarte in March last year.
The midfielder’s departure acknowledges the fact that next season could prove too taxing.
United’s staff consider him one of the club’s most respected players.
Fans shared their feelings, as one user wrote: “No matter what happens, Casemiro leaves with respect. A true competitor who gave everything for the badge when it mattered most.”
The second user wrote: “Saying goodbye to the stadium, just like saying goodbye to every attacking midfielder who passed him this season.”
Casemiro will be remembered for his unwavering support during Mainoo’s return to the side and return to form under Michael Carrick, a mentorship that ultimately led to the young Mancunian securing a new long-term contract last month.
