Martin Short and Meryl Streep have reportedly entered a difficult chapter in their rumored romance.
According to Radar Online, the couple’s relationship has been strained after Short’s daughter, Katherine Short, died by suicide earlier this year.
Insiders revealed that Short grieved the loss and withdrew emotionally from those around him.
The source said: “Martin adored Katherine, the sun rose and set with her, so of course he is devastated.”
She added: “Her death is just shocking.”
Meryl Streep is said to be having a “tough time” getting through Martin Short, with a source saying: “She’s very concerned.”
“She loves Martin unconditionally, and it’s just devastating to see him so broken,” they said. “They’ve never necessarily called each other ‘boyfriend’ and ‘girlfriend,’ but they’ve been incredibly close.”
The source notes, “The hope is that once things start to calm down, they can find a way to reconnect.”
The friendship between the two stars grew into romance last year after their collaboration on Only Murders in the Building. Although they describe their relationship as “very good friends,” reports indicate that they have been inseparable.
