Scarlett Johansson reveals how ‘supportive’ beauty keeps her ‘grounded’

Scarlett Johansson has credited her regular skincare regimen with helping her stay grounded and feel “more like myself.”

The 41-year-old actress opened up Yahoo!’s laugh lines on how she maintains her flawless appearance, saying she believes in beauty when it’s “supportive, not corrective.”

Scarlett, who launched her skincare line The Outset in 2022, explained: “My three-step routine is non-negotiable.”

“It takes less than three minutes, but it makes me feel good even on the most chaotic days. A consistent skincare routine really helps a lot. It’s predictable, it’s soothing, and it’s something I can control,” she added.

The Black widow star continued, “My routine is one of the few times in the day where I’m not multitasking,” going on to say, “It’s not about transformation, it’s about maintenance, in the best sense of the word. Like checking in with yourself.”

She added that her “version of a beauty escape” is “very unglamorous,” admitting that it’s usually just “five quiet minutes alone.”

The actress said, “It’s less about the product and more about giving yourself permission to take a break.”

“In the beginning, beauty felt very external: part of the job, part of the image. Over time, it became much more personal,” she explained.

“Now it’s less about how something looks and more about how it feels. I’ve let go of a lot. I’m much more interested in how my skin feels: healthy, comfortable and balanced,” says Scarlett.

One of the products Scarlett credits with allowing herself to “reset” is The Outset’s Lip Oasis balm. “Honestly, even reapplying and breathing can feel like a reset.”

Scarlett concluded by saying that it was her first foray into beauty and skincare, through her on-screen roles, that inspired her to launch her simple skincare range.

“I spent years sitting in a makeup chair with all kinds of products on my skin, and my skin was really set back. I was dealing with breakouts, sensitivity, everything. It made me realize that more is not better, and that ‘fixing’ your skin can actually make things worse,” Scarlett Johansson said of her makeup and skincare inspiration.
