Football star Son Heung-min finally felt relief after a woman was jailed for four years for blackmailing him with false claims.
The news caught everyone’s attention as the tables were turned on the woman who claimed she was expecting a baby with the footballer and was eventually sentenced to prison.
The decision was announced by a South Korean court on Monday, December 8, 2025 that a woman named Yang was accused of extorting 300 million won ($204,000) from Son in 2024 after she sent him an ultrasound photo of a baby she claimed was his and demanded money to keep quiet.
As informed by the Seoul Central District Court, she later conspired with a man, identified as Yong, to try to extort more money from Son, reports BBC.
The woman named Yang, in her 20s, and her accomplice Yong, a man in his 40s, were found guilty of blackmailing the former Tottenham captain into saying she was pregnant with his child, Yonhap news agency reported.
The court said on Monday that Yang had lied to Son, although she had not confirmed whose child she was carrying.
The woman had approached Son last year and her accomplice had threatened Son fifteen times to get the money.
The perpetrator, Yang, denied the charges of extortion and attempted extortion, while Yong, who admitted the offense, was sentenced to two years in prison.
As reported by AFP, the woman spent the money on luxury and designer items, and when they demanded more money from the footballer this year, Son acted immediately and went to the police.
The judge said the woman and her accomplice had abused the celebrity for their crime and that Son appeared to have suffered “intense mental torture” after the case emerged in the media.
In October, Son was named the second-highest paid soccer player in the Major League Soccer MLS, North America’s top soccer league, comparable to the English Premier League.
The 33-year-old Son is among Asia’s biggest players who joined Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and later joined Los Angeles Football Club LAFC in August 2025.
Son Heung-min became the first Asian to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot, which is awarded annually to the 2022 competition’s top scorer.
