Glen Powell opens the tricky side of Hollywood parties and the weight of the cancellation culture.
During an appearance on Jake Shane Therapuss Podcast, the actor, shared a story about an uncomfortable run-in with a celebrity that was recently ‘canceled’.
Powell, currently promoting the upcoming comedy series from Hulu Chanders and Paramount’s action film The running manAvoid mentioning the individual but explained how uncomfortable the situation became.
‘I was at a party and there was someone [there] In principle, that had been to the ropes in terms of a kind of being canceled, “he said.
“This person had made some of my favorite films and I had something like:” Oh, this is great. ” He came up and said, “Nice to meet you.” I had something like: “Oh, guy and then said a photographer:” Hey, we can take a picture of you. ” ‘
That was when the moment was tense. Powell quickly remembered that he realized that the potential fall -out of was photographed with the actor.
“This person was recently canceled and it was not good,” he admitted.
“I was a fan of their work, but not a fan of their choices. So I was just nice. But when they wanted to take a picture with you, I realized very quickly – I had something like:” Oh, I don’t know if this is a good idea. ”
He added that the celebrity seemed to notice his hesitation.
“I realized that this guy, his face is toxic. The world is going out, people have a visceral reaction to this person in terms of the bad choice they have made.”
The actor used the experience to think about the cancellation of culture wider and how he matches his new role.

“Russ Holiday is just a man who made a mistake, he is not a bad guy,” said Powell. “Some of these other people who are canceled, they have to lie where they are shot … In the time of today, Culture Culture is just something where the world does not let you forget your mistakes. With telephones, with tap, with Instagram, with Instagram make so many people mistakes and the world will not let you forget.”
For Powell, the heart of the show lies in how people react to failure.
“I found it interesting how people react at those moments. They dubberly, they take responsibility, do they believe in conspiracy theories? Just let a character learn ‘it’s regretted’ is really a nice thing.”
The Hulu series with six episodes, inspired by Eli Manning’s 2022 ESPN+ Sketch, also gave Powell the chance to work under the guidance of his old mentor Tom Cruise.
To transform into his alter ego -tjaad powers, the actor underwent Prothetic Makeup and he credits cruise to help him navigate him by navigating the process.
“Tom was extremely helpful to help not to follow the wrong path in terms of the prostheses,” Powell said The Hollywood Reporter.
“He was, with a lot in my life, he was my first phone call … He really pointed us to the right direction to make sure he really went to work.”
