Craig Melvin is aiming big with his new venture: ‘Really excited’

Craig Melvin has finally told his story about starting a family candle business, Melvin made.

In conversation with PEOPLE magazine, the 46-year-old American broadcaster announced that he and his family are launching a candle company called Melvin made with the aim of helping cancer charities.

Melvin said his new venture will facilitate cancer charities, including those that have housed his own cancer-surviving family members.

Expressing his thoughts, he joked, “I’m really excited about it. The goal is to sell these things and raise awareness about a variety of cancers so that people will talk about screenings, listen to your body, and talk about family histories. This is another tool to do that.”

Notably, the ingredients used in candle making are coconut oil and phthalate-free fragrances.

Additionally, they are made in two different sizes, 16 ounce and 10 ounce, and will also be available in five different scents including Pink Jasmine, Lindsay, Betty Jo, Southern Office and Hilton Head. The collection will receive a sixth seasonal addition called Fireside Frankincense.

“One of the candle scents is actually named after Jasmine, my younger brother Ryan’s late daughter. It’s a nod to her, but also to the fact that he introduced me to the concept of candle making years ago,” noted Craig Melvin.
