Two house officers in the Jinnah Hospital showed probable signs of the Crimian Congo -Hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), also known as the Congo virus, after deaths in the province of Sindh brought worries on Saturday.
Executive director Jinnah Hospital Dr. Shahid Rasool said, inquired about the disorders of the patients: “A home officer has 90% symptoms of the Congo virus. Both doctors showed symptoms on the day after providing medical care to a patient to the Congo virus last week.”
In particular, a patient with the Congo virus died on June 19 (Thursday) while being treated in the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital.
“Both doctors complained about high fever and abdominal pain,” Dr. Shahid.
Because of their disorders, one home officer is isolated at home, while the other is on the medical IC of the Jinnah Hospital.
PCR samples from both doctors were sent to the lab and their report on the Congo virus will be received on Monday, the executive director said.
He added that, given the current situation, a Koortsbureau was set up in the Emergency Department of the Hospital. The hospital does not have the facilities to set up a large-scale insulation unit.
“Instructions of the health department with regard to the establishment of insulation units will be followed,” said Dr. Shahid.
Earlier on Thursday, a 26-year-old man from the Ibrahim Hyderi area of Karachi died at the Congo virus, which marked the second confirmed death of the virus in Sindh this year, according to a report from the Provincial Health Department.
Congo virus is a viral disease with ticks with a fatal number of case that varies from 10% to 40%, according to the World Health Organization.
The virus can be transferred via tick bites or through contact with the blood or tissues of infected animals, especially during slaughter. There is currently no vaccine available.
