Hilary Duff finally responds to Ashley Tisdale’s essay on the “toxic mom group,” which netizens thought included her, Mandy Moore and Meghan Tranior. .
Tisdale, 40, wrote the essay for The Cut and described how he was left out of group plans and felt left out by the said parent group. She wrote that she eventually left the group because it became too “middle school.”
Duff, who is promoting her new album, was asked if online speculation about the group members of the so-called “toxic parent group” made her “pause about re-entering the pop world.”
“I mean, this is not new to me. I’ve had this since I was maybe 15 and started getting followed by paparazzi. Everything is starting to be documented and everyone knows my life and all the players in it,” she told the Los Angeles Times.
“So the stories that make news — it’s not what happens to a normal person who maybe became an actor as an adult. And now it’s being escalated by the talking heads on TikTok who need clickbait,” she continued.
“It’s hard because you think, ‘Wait, that person has got it right’ and ‘Wait, that person doesn’t know what they’re talking about,'” she added.
“I saw something that said, ‘None of the moms at school really like her, and neither do the teachers,’ and I thought, ‘First of all… the women at school are nice and I’m obsessed with all of them,” Duff continued.
Duff’s husband Matthew Koma responded fervently to Tisdale’s essay via his Instagram Story at the time, writing, “When you’re the most self-obsessed, tone-deaf person on the planet, other moms tend to shift the focus to their actual toddlers.”
