Savannah Guthrie’s mother Nancy Guthrie has been missing since February 1, 2026.
Authorities say she was kidnapped from her home. Many people online have made false accusations that she was kidnapped by an old family friend.
A fifth grade teacher, Dominic Evans, who was wrongly linked online to the Nancy Guthrie investigation, has spoken out after Internet speculation turned his life upside down.
In a recent interview with the New York TimesEvans revealed that his home in Tucson, Arizona, was overrun with amateur sleuths after the FBI released surveillance footage on February 10 that showed a masked man outside Nancy’s home.
Evans said the online accusations quickly increased despite the fact he had only met Nancy, 84, once more than a decade ago in 2011. Some users speculated about his involvement in Guthrie’s kidnapping because Evans plays in a band with Tommaso Cioni.
For those unfamiliar, Tommaso Cioni is Nancy’s son-in-law and brother-in-law Today cohost Savannah Guthrie. He also suspected that someone had tried to use him as a scapegoat.
“I feel like someone took my name,” Dominic said
Dominic also added that he is very depressed about this whole situation. “I don’t know, monetary, clickbait, to be relevant, entertainment, but there are innocent people getting hurt.”
Dominic and his wife Andrea opened up about the awkward situation netizens faced after they started comparing his facial features to the masked figure seen in the surveillance footage. The couple admitted that the situation became frightening when crowds gathered outside their home on the day the photos were released.
Andrea revealed she became “scared and numb” when she saw such a huge crowd outside her home.
“It was looking out the window all night, trying not to let any light come into our house.” she explained.
Furthermore, days later after police and the FBI conducted a search and traffic stop in Tucson, more people showed up near the Evans home. Authorities detained four people that day in connection with a search warrant before later releasing them.
