Angela Bassett reveals she ‘always enjoys’ listening to one line from fans

Angela Bassett’s career is full of successful projects, but one quote from her holds a special place in the hearts of her fans.

On Tuesday, May 12, the iconic American actress, famous for her work in both television and films, spoke at the Disney Upfront 2026 in New York City with PEOPLE magazine about the love her fans have shown her when they see her and the special lines they quote to her.

“You might hear, ‘Go to bed, Joseph! Go to bed!'” Bassett told the outlet, referencing her character, Katherine Jackson, who uttered these lines to her husband, Joseph Jackson, especially when she indulged in a heated late-night debate in the 1992 TV miniseries: The Jacksons: An American Dream.

“Yes, so you hear different lines, but I always enjoy that. I always enjoy that,” she admitted.

For those who don’t know, The Jacksons: An American Dream is a favorite five-hour miniseries that originally aired from November 15 to November 18, 1992, and also aired in two halves on ABC.

It is pertinent to mention that Angela Bassett played the role of the mother of the Jackson siblings including Michael Jackson, Jackie Jackson and Jermaine Jackson, while Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs starred as her husband, Joseph.
