K-pop boy band BTS just scored their first win at the American Music Awards as their fifth studio album, ARIRANG‘s leading trail, SWIMMING was crowned Best Song of the Summer.
The boy band, also known as the Bangtan boysdefeated Taylor Swift Elizabeth Taylor“Harry Styles” American girlsPinkPantheress and Zara Larsson’s StatesAlex Warrens FEVER DREAMElla Langleys I choose TexelBella Kays iloveitiloveitiloveit, Noah Kahan’s The great divideTame Impala and JENNIE’s Draculaand that of SOMBR Homewrecker.
BTS has also been nominated for the Best Male K-Pop Artist Award and Artist of the Year at the yet-to-be-announced annual event.
All members of BTS, including Jung Kook, J-hope, Jin, RM, SUGA, Jimin and V, attended the award ceremony and received the award on stage.
During the acceptance speech, the leader of global pop sensation RM said, “First and foremost, a big shout out to ARMY. Thank you so much for giving all the love to ‘SWIM.’ When we were making this, we were under a lot of pressure trying to figure out what kind of music felt most like us at the moment. All we believed in at the time was that we had to keep challenging and keep moving forward.”
It is pertinent to mention that the boy band won Best Artist of the Year in 2021 and they received their first ever AMAs for Top Social Artist in 2018.
