David Harbour, best known for his role as dutiful cop Jim Hopper Stranger thingsmay never get this role.
If only the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, had gotten their first casting choice.
The showrunners share this shock with Josh Horowitz’s Happy sad confused.
Surprisingly, Harbor asked this question to the show’s creators themselves.
He demanded the truth from them.
“Hello, Duffer Brothers,” he said in a pre-recorded question, which Horowitz shared.
“I would like to know Hopper’s casting process.”
“I’m pretty sure I was second choice, and I don’t know who I was second choice for – maybe I was third choice?
“But would you please answer the question of how I came to be cast as Chief Hopper and who had to say no to let me play that wonderful, incredible role?”
Horowitz, the host, guessed it was Josh Brolin.
Matt Duffer immediately clarified in a funny way: “No, no, no, no, no, no.”
He then dropped the name of the first casting choice for Jim Hopper: “No, it was Billy Crudup.”
Looking back on their original choice, Duffer acknowledges, “It’s a whole different story: everything happens for a reason, right?”
He continues, “So it’s like once it clicks into place.”
Duffer reveals Crudup turned down the role in Stranger Things: “But yes, Billy Crudup passed.”
“I don’t think he was doing much TV at that point,” he notes.
Harbor automatically got the role and became one of the most famous faces on global television.
