Jorge Martin won the French Grand Prix on Sunday from seventh on the grid, giving the Spaniard his first MotoGP race victory since 2024, the year he won the championship.
Aprilia’s ex-MotoGP world champion is now just one point behind Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi in the riders’ standings.
The Spaniard, who endured a forgettable 2025 season plagued by crashes and injuries, overtook race leader Bezzecchi with three laps to go to secure his first victory since winning the 2024 title.
The win brought Martin within one point of championship leader Bezzecchi after five rounds.
He took his first MotoGP victory in 588 days as he found himself within striking distance of his Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi in the championship battle.
“It’s incredible… I still can’t say it enough because I’m so grateful to all the fans,” said an emotional Martin.
In addition, Ducati’s reigning champion Marc Marquez missed the race after breaking his foot in Saturday’s sprint crash, while the Spaniard will also sit out next weekend’s Catalan Grand Prix as he requires surgery.
