Ryan Coogler took a trip down memory lane, recalling the efforts he made to authentically capture the world of Creed.
In a recent confessional with The Hollywood Reporterthe filmmaker opened up about the process of finding the right location for the film.
Reportedly, the quest to find the perfect location took him 2,500 miles away to Philadelphia.
Doing this also gave him the opportunity to get to know every nook and cranny of the city, which helped him to meticulously plan details.
He even confessed, “I’m afraid of doing something wrong.”
Coogler explained, “I never want anyone from here to get excited about going to buy tickets to a movie and then sit down and say, ‘Oh man, they’re wrong.’ That will be a punch in the gut.”
Talking about his debut film Fruitvale Stationhe claimed that he entered a reflective loop after the film’s release.
“That film was made by someone who didn’t fully understand how the world worked,” Coogler said.
He also explained: “I played football and went to school all my life. I didn’t study all the factors that led to Oscar being executed on camera. I know more now – and it doesn’t make you optimistic.”
