The King of Pop is back, in the form of Jaafar Jackson, whose electric performance in his uncle’s biopic, Michaelstunned fans.
As the U.S. premiere of the highly anticipated Lionsgate film opened in Los Angeles on Monday, attention was focused on how the social media reaction unfolded after the screening.
There is a review embargo, which will be lifted on April 21, before the film hits theaters on April 24.
Still, the Antonique Smith-directed biopic has received favorable initial responses online.
“Jafaar Jackson is unreal in MICHAEL. I know the voice was assisted, but the attitude, the dance moves and the overall presence are truly amazing to watch,” says Matthew Belloni, the founder and partner of Puck news.
Echoing his sentiment, Daniel Howart, journalist for NextBigPicturesays: “Jaafar Jackson is amazing in MICHAEL, which really makes you forget he’s not the real deal. An extraordinary performance.”
“The rest of the film is about as generic as you can get. Fans will enjoy the musical performances, but there is unfortunately no humanity behind it.”
In addition to Jackson, Michael also stars Colman Domingo, Nia Long and Miles Tettler.
