Conan O’Brien is all set for his Oscars appearance as he will honor his late friend Rob Reiner during the ceremony.
The When Harry Met Sally director, who tragically died with his wife after his son Nick murdered his parents in December, will be remembered with a “very powerful” message at the upcoming annual awards ceremony on Sunday.
During a recent appearance on the Dolby Theater red carpet on Thursday, host Conan told Extra that the tribute is “hard to summarize.”
“But it becomes a very powerful part of the show,” he noted.
Since this will be Conan’s second straight Oscar hosting, he expressed his excitement about the hosting gig.
“I had a lot of fun and I just wanted to do it again, and the movies this year were insane. It was such a great year for movies that I’m excited to be even a small part of it,” he said.
“We’ve been working hard with my writers. I have great writers. We have a lot of ideas. Some things are a little more ambitious than last year, and we’ll see how it goes.”
“If I have to, I can always skip town and stay in the background for a while,” he added jokingly.
Notably, at this year’s Oscars ceremony, the “memoriam” segment will be longer than last year’s, according to Oscars producer Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan.
“I don’t think we can really go into detail about what it’s going to be this year, but we really hope it’s a tribute that moves people and feels like it does justice to the incredible people we’ve lost this year,” Mullan explained.
