Michael B. Jordan made history at the 2026 Oscars on Sunday evening, March 15.
Jordan triumphed by winning the Best Actor award at the 2026 Academy Awards for playing twin brothers Smoke and Stack in Sinners.
The 39-year-old American actor and director was nominated for the award, along with top stars including Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke and Wagner Moura.
When his name was announced, he hugged his mother, Donna Jordan, went to the podium to accept the award and began his speech by showing gratitude to his family.
Jordan then gave his thanks Sinners director and frequent collaborator Ryan Coogler, who had previously won the Best Original Screenplay Award, before giving a shoutout to two of the film’s leading ladies, Hailee Steinfeld and Wunmi Mosaku.
“Wunmi, thank you so much for giving Smoke the chance to be him,” said the Empty Panther star recognized.
“Hailee at home – you know she’s getting ready to have a baby right now – thank you so much for being the other half of Stack,” he said, expressing great appreciation for her efforts.
The Religion actor further admitted, “I’m here because of the people who came before me: Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forrest Whitaker, Will Smith. And to be among those giants, among those greats, among my ancestors, among my boys.”
Jordan concluded his speech by expressing his sincere gratitude to the people who have continuously supported him over the years.
“Thank you, everyone in this room and everyone at home for supporting me throughout my career. I can feel it. I know you guys want me to do well, and I want to do that because you bet on me,” Michael B. Jordan joked and thanked them.
It’s important to mention that Sinners won four awards at the 2026 Academy Awards.
