Timothee Chalamet may or may not ‘regret’ his opera and ballet commentary, but now Jamie Lee Curtis thinks his comment is ‘okay’ after previously Dune star.
During the premiere of her new film Sender, The 67-year-old actress, in the wake of Chalamet’s “nobody cares about” opera comment, opened up about how “every word” is “recorded” in the current era and what happened to Chalamet “is going to happen to all of us.”
“He’s a talented kid and he made a stupid comment that he’s going to regret,” Curtis said Den van Geek at SXSW. “And that’s okay.”
“In today’s marketplace, where every word we say is recorded, it’s going to happen to all of us,” she continued.
Curtis recalled a similar incident that happened to her, saying, “It’s definitely happened to me, and I’ve been outed because of the things I once said on a podcast about something — when in fact it wasn’t what I said, but I got bashed for it, and that’s okay.” We are all adults.
Although Chalmet is “growing up,” Curtis believes that “he regrets his comments.”
“And if he doesn’t, that’s fine too, but it was a foolish comment that clearly denigrated a beautiful art form,” she added.
The controversy over Chalamet’s opera commentary arose after he went to talk to him Interstellar costar Matthew McConaughey in February.
“I don’t want to work in ballet or opera or things where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive even if no one cares about it anymore.’ All respect to all the ballet and opera people out there,” he said during the lecture.
“I just lost 14 cents in viewers, just taking pictures for no reason,” Timothee added.
