Nicholas Brendon, known for his role as Xander Harris Buffy the Vampire Slayer posted a video of him coughing up smoke a week before he tragically died.
The 54-year-old’s family confirmed his death in a social media post on Friday. They wrote:
“We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon. He passed away in his sleep from natural causes. Our family requests privacy during this time as we mourn his loss and celebrate the life of a man who lived with intensity, imagination and heart.”
Just a week before his death, Brendon can be seen talking to his fans outside what is supposedly his California home.
The 45-minute fragment turned out to be part of a long-running dialogue that the actor had with his audience.
In the most recent clip, posted on March 14, the TV star can be seen rocking back and forth while coughing aggressively.
Brendon said, his voice cracking, “I had a fire all day because it was cold… but it’s amazing what it does to you when you breathe in smoke.”
The Buffy star later added, while coughing aggressively: “F*** this f****** smoke. I sound like Bane.”
The video was captioned: “There’s something we need to talk about. Come one. Come all.”
At one point during the video, the actor started talking about the huge show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. “I believe the way the show ended should not have ended the way it did,” he said. “Sara [Gellar, who played Buffy in the show]…she worked very hard, but in a way she ruined the show.
“She told everyone she was leaving way too late in the series, so [creator] Josh [Wheddon] was not prepared for that,” he added.
“Every season you have an arc… it wasn’t fair to the crew, the cast or the show,” Nicholas Brendon concluded in the video of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
