Jesse McCartney has opened up for the first time about his son’s health after spending days in the NICU.
The Because you are alive The 38-year-old singer, who recently entered fatherhood by welcoming the first baby with wife Katie Peterson, revealed that their baby, Archer James, has lived up to his name and proven to be a fighter.
“After spending 70 days in the NICU, he is a completely healthy baby,” McCartney said PEOPLE.
McCartney, a singer-songwriter, added: “I’m sure there will be many more trials of fatherhood to come, but I feel like if I can get through them, I can get through most of them.”
The star, who released his latest EP Weightless in September, and currently running through December, said the couple chose not to discuss the situation with friends, instead relying on family.
“Archie came through the NICU with flying colors,” says McCartney.
“He has boosted the NICU in a textbook way, and that’s literally what the doctors said. We stuck to that and just took it one day at a time.’
“They focused on staying optimistic during the difficult situation, the star says.”
