Taylor Swift continues to rewrite chart history The life of a showgirl is number 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart for the second consecutive week.
The record-breaking release not only maintains his top spot, but also establishes Swift as the international artist with the most No. 1 albums in UK chart history – now a total of 14.
The album’s initial debut shattered records to become the fastest-selling British release of the century The Beatles and the best-selling international release in one week.
Its success was underlined by huge vinyl sales, with 126,000 copies sold in just the first week.
In the field of singles, Swift dominates just as powerfully. Lead single The fate of Ophelia remains at number 1, while Opal And Elizabeth Taylor round out the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively.
With No. 1 airplay and the top three singles in addition to the album topping the charts, Swift becomes the first artist ever in Britain to hold all of these positions simultaneously.
Chart analyst Martin Talbot called the album’s continued momentum “extraordinary” and highlighted its staying power after the initial hype.
Meanwhile, critics may remain divided over the album’s artistic direction, but commercially speaking, Swift’s strategy is unprecedented.
The album was recorded in Sweden during a tour and was made together with long-time collaborators Max Martin and Shellback.
Its rollout has combined social media storytelling, theatrical events and multiple physical collector’s editions, creating a fan-driven ecosystem that drives sustainable success.
Swift addressed her critics directly: “If you say my name or my album title, you’re helping,” she said. “I have a lot of respect for people’s subjective opinions about art.”
