Jesse Plemons talks about how his on-screen chemistry with Kirsten Dunst turned into real-life love.
In a new interview with Andy Cohen on RadioAndyaired on Monday, October 27, the Bugonia star reflected on the first time he met Dunst, now his wife, while filming season 2 of FX’s Fargo back in 2015.
Plemons, 37, said he felt an immediate bond with his future husband.
“We immediately clicked creatively and felt like we could trust each other,” he said.
Playing husband and wife on the show also allowed them to become closer off-screen.
“I knew we would play husband and wife and spend a lot of time together,” he recalls.
“And you know, you never know when it’s something you have to work for. And sometimes you get lucky.”
The pair, who played Peggy and Ed Blumquist in Fargo, both earned Critics Choice Awards and Emmy nominations for their performances.
The critically acclaimed season also featured Jean Smart, Patrick Wilson, Ted Danson, Bokeem Woodbine and Cristin Milioti.
Reflecting on his first impressions of Dunst, 43, Plemons praised her talent and grounded personality.
“We had both been acting since we were kids, but she had a lot of success early on,” he said.
“And I was just amazed at how human and unguarded she was and giving. So it was just really easy and we had so much fun with those two parts.”
Their bond grew beyond the set, with Plemons smilingly reporting that they “got together a year and a half later and now have a couple of kids.”
The couple, who tied the knot in July 2022, share two sons, Ennis, 7, and James, 4. During the conversation, Cohen also asked about his family life, and Plemons proudly shared that both boys are “taking up” sports and the arts.
James, he said, is “quite active,” while Ennis is “a little bit more sensitive and creative, just constantly drawing, painting and making Lego sets.”
Plemons couldn’t help but laugh as he added: ‘Shout out to Ennis, he [builds Legos designed for] only 18 years and older.”
