Sabrina Carpenter sparked a mix of laughter and criticism after a playful interaction with Gigi Hadid at her latest Short and sweet concert.
During the opening night of the second North American leg on Thursday, October 23, the 26-year-old Disney star turned pop sensation locked eyes with the supermodel for the Juno tradition.
At each stop of her tour, the Espresso hitmaker “arrests” someone from the audience before releasing her song Juno.
So during her first show in Pittsburgh, the ex-girlfriend of famous One Direction singer Zayn Malik was the latest victim to be arrested for being a “gorgeous girl.”
Multiple fan-made videos showed Hadid, wearing an animal print tank top over a white T-shirt and jeans, standing in the audience.
Their cheeky banter includes the Grammy winner teasing, “Wow, maybe we’re soulmates! Gigi, I get so excited and nervous,” before twirling her pink handcuffs and saying, “This one’s for Gigi, y’all.”
After the concert, the 30-year-old Fashion Regular joined in on the fun, reposting snippets of the moment to her Instagram Stories with the caption, “Guilty as charged.”
While many fans applauded the hilarious exchange, others felt like the routine was starting to lose its spark.
Some social media users wondered why celebrities are often chosen over regular concertgoers.
“This sounds stupid, but why are some guys standing in front of the barricade? Does Sab have them as special guests or?’ asked an X user (formerly Twitter).
Another chimed in, saying, “I wish more non-celebrities or influencers got this at the shows.”
A third seemed sarcastic, writing, “I can’t wait for the day she arrests a regular person,” echoing the sentiments of a few more users.
Gigi’s arrest comes after a slew of celebrity cameos on Carpenter’s shows, including Stranger things stars Millie Bobby Brown, Emma Bunton, Saturday Night Live SNL member Marcello Hernández, Margaret Qualley, DJo and more.
