Robert Irwin had a terrifying incident that went unnoticed while he was performing on stage this week Dancing with the stars and his partner Witney Carson was completely unaware of it.
The 21-year-old Australian wildlife warrior performed a ballroom dance for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night to the tune of Icky Thump from De Witte Strepen.
The powerful and steamy performance left the audience spellbound as the dancing duo nailed every step in their routine, earning them two nines and two tens from the judges. The cheers and applause from the audience were also a major indication that they were all enjoying the show.
What many didn’t know, however, was that the beloved Aussie almost didn’t survive because he nearly choked on his life. During an interview with ET after the performance, Robert shared his ending to the story, finally letting his annoyance through his upbeat attitude.
“I almost died last night,” he declared. “I choked on a piece of confetti after the team dance.”
He continued with animated expressions: “Legit, I went to Witney and I think they cut away and I inhaled a piece of confetti.” Robert turns to Witney and tells her how he “couldn’t breathe” while miming his gagging expressions and how he finally pulled out the piece.
The host added that everyone was happy that Robert is “still with us”, to which he joked: “I almost wasn’t”.
Witney says she will continue to protect him and if she had known she would have ‘protected’ him.
