Glen Powell wins hearts with ‘SNL’ hosting debut four years after postponement

Glen Powell announced that hosting Saturday evening live was a dream come true, not only because it was a milestone in his career, but also because he got to prove himself to a UPS driver.

The 37-year-old actor delivered an interesting monologue in his hosting debut during the weekend show on Saturday, November 15, detailing how he flew a special guest, UPS driver Mitch, for the show.

The Twisters star shared that he would be hosting in 2021 to promote Top Gun: Maverickbut the release was postponed due to COVID, and he lost the offer.

However, it was too late as he had asked the UPS driver to tune in for the delivery. “When I got the call [to host SNL]I was sitting on a porch with my family and we were all losing our minds. We jumped up and down and celebrated. Coincidentally, a UPS driver was delivering a package at the exact same time,” he recalls.

The Everyone but you actor joked that “this UPS driver just went around saying Glen Powell is a liar. My sisters tracked him down because the women in my family are scary.”

Powell continued, “They found this UPS guy’s cell phone number. His name is Mitch. So to prove to Mitch that I’m not a liar, I flew him all the way to New York – [in] coach because I don’t know yet how Running Man will do. … He thought it was a scam, but he came anyway!”

The Top pistol actor then invited Mitch on stage and recreated the selfie they took four years ago.

The monologue made a big impression on the audience, as one person on X wrote: “This was one of the best monologues I have ever heard.”

Another echoed: “I love Glen Powell – he’s hilarious! Bonus points to him and his family for tracking down his UPS guy (Mitch) and inviting him on the show.”

While a third chimed in: “I love that he invited the UPS guy! Awwwwww,” and “He should host an awards ceremony, he’s too good,” one wrote.
