Scarlett Johansson is reportedly in talks to join the upcoming reboot of The exorcist.
Speak with The coverthe film’s director, Mike Flanagan, said he wants to cast the actress in his new horror film.
“Scarlett is a brilliant actress whose captivating performances always feel grounded and real, from genre films to summer blockbusters,” he said.
“I couldn’t be more excited that she’s joining this Exorcist movie,” Mike told the outlet, without giving any details about Scarlett’s role.
Last year it was announced that Mike would be developing an original story instead of a sequel, following 2023’s poor box-office performance. The Exorcist: Faith.
“The Exorcist is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker,” the director said at the time.
“And it’s an honor to have the opportunity to try something new, daring and terrifying within the universe. Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I’ve created some of my favorite pieces, only makes this even more exciting,” he added.
In September 2024, in an interview with THRMike said he wanted to make the “scariest movie” with the iconic franchise.
“I pursued The Exorcist very aggressively because I was convinced I had something I could add. This is an opportunity to do something that I believe has never been done before within the franchise – something that pays homage to what came before, but isn’t built on nostalgia. I really saw an opportunity to make the scariest movie I’ve ever made,” he said.
For those unfamiliar, Mike is best known for his directing work in The Ghost of Hill House And Doctor sleep.
