Zoe Ball Discusses Rare Health Struggle: ‘So Frustrating’

Zoe Ball has opened up about her health struggles.

During an episode of hers Dig It podcastwhich she co-hosts with Jo Whiley, Zoe Ball spoke candidly about her long battle with insomnia, admitting she was once heavily dependent on sleeping tablets.

The moment came when Jo read out a question from listener Alison, who said she often tunes in at 3am because she can’t sleep.

Alison explained that she had tried ‘everything’, from medication and meditation apps to sleeping in a separate room from her partner.

Zoe responded with empathy, revealing that she too has experienced similar nighttime battles, and shared one change that ultimately helped her get consistent rest.

“Alison, sweet girl, I feel your pain; it’s so frustrating. I was really struggling to sleep, and yes, I was taking a lot of sleeping tablets,” she admitted.

“And again, you shouldn’t really use those for a long period of time because they can increase the risk of dementia, but worrying about not being able to sleep will keep you from being able to sleep.”

Zoe then offered the one thing that made a noticeable difference for her: “So, Alison, from me, something that you may have tried, because it sounds like you’ve exhausted all options – when I started taking magnesium at night, I found that really helped.”
