David Burtka has revealed that this year’s holidays will be all about rest, family time and keeping things low key.

Speak with PEOPLE Magazine at the 24-hour play galathe actor shared that after a busy journey he is looking forward to a quieter Christmas with loved ones.

“It’s been wild,” Burtka admitted, thinking about how hectic things have been lately.

He explained that both sides of the family come together just before Christmas and make time for a shared dinner, exchanging gifts and bonding.

“Both our parents come into town right before Christmas. We take both families out to dinner and give presents and stuff,” he said.

After the festivities, Burtka and his family plan to retreat east to their home for the remainder of the holidays.

“Then we’ll go east to our house there and spend the two weeks of vacation just chilling,” he added.

Burtka, who shares 15-year-old twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott with partner Neil Patrick Harris, noted that the quiet time will be especially welcome once Harris wraps up his Broadway run at ART.

“Harris really just doesn’t want to do anything,” Burtka shared, concluding by saying, “It’ll be nice to just do nothing and have a really quiet New Year and just be together and cook.”
