Jack Black says Syndrome, the villain in Pixar’s 2004 animated hit The incredible, is a role he wishes he hadn’t passed up in his career.
In a recent interview with Capital FMThe actor, 56, was asked to name a film role he turned down and later regretted.
Black explained that he was offered the role before the film’s release, but declined after questioning the character and creative direction.
He said he was unfamiliar with director Brad Bird at the time and felt the character lacked depth. He recalled asking for changes to the script, a request that ultimately ended the conversation.
Looking back, Black said the decision taught him an important lesson. When The incredible ones which premiered to great acclaim and went on to become one of Pixar’s most celebrated films, he realized he had misjudged both the project and the creative team behind it.
The film grossed more than $600 million worldwide and later spawned a successful sequel, a third of which is now in development.
Black acknowledged that his instincts were wrong and said he regretted being overly critical early on. When he saw the finished film, he said, it became clear that the role and story were much stronger than he expected.
Despite missing The incredible onesBlack’s career continued to flourish while he played around the same time Rock school and subsequently appeared in films such as King Kong, Nacho Libre, And The holiday.
He later found great success in the animation world and led the Kung Fu Panda franchise and voicing Bowser The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
