Garcelle Beauvais has opened up about the emotional toll of divorce.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star has reportedly split from Mike Nilon to protect her peace.
Garcelle admitted that ending her marriage at 40 was never part of the plan, saying, “It’s a difficult decision to divorce in your 40s.”
“Nobody signs up for that. That wasn’t something I wanted to do, but I had to do it because I had to choose me,” she added.
Furthermore, Garcelle said that staying in the relationship would have changed “the essence” of who she really was. She said, “I would be the worried woman: ‘Where are you? Why are you late? Who’s on the phone?'”
“And I didn’t want to change that. I didn’t want to become that person, and I didn’t want to raise my boys that way,” Garcelle added.
Garcelle Beauvais and Mike Nilon tied the knot in May 2001 and divorced in 2011.
Previously, Garcelle revealed on RHOBH that she found out her husband had been cheating for years after finding text messages on his phone.
On the other hand, she also reflected on her decision to leave RHOBH after five seasons. She said, “When I sat on that reunion stage and looked around, I felt like I had no friends.”
Adding, “And if the show is based on friendships, I ran out of friends on that show.”
“My mind was gone. I couldn’t do it anymore,” Garcelle said.
